Edward scissor hands is directed By Tim Burton.
It is a very different film that is has a genre of gothic, romance and mystery but don’t worry its not scary!
The story is about a boy who has scissors as hands and a family that is perfect, there neighbourhood is perfect and clean. They find the boy called Edward and they bring him home. He gets up to many things such as saving a boys life but then not meaning to hurt him but puts scratches on his face, the reason he saved the boys life was because he was about to get hit by Kim (Edwards lover) ex boyfriend as he was drunk. He saved him and then falls in love with a girl called Kim who is the ladies daughter who he lives with. In the end the police come after him but he runs back up to his haunted house at the top of the village on the top of a hill which is very dark and scary. As you enter the building there is cobwebs and lots of statues. You walk up a spiral stair to a big room with a hole in the roof and in the corner lies Edward unhappy. Kim the girl runs upstairs to find Edward and she then holds his scissor hands and kisses him. Then kims ex boyfriend come and tries to kill Edward but Edward stabs him the heart and pushes him out of the window and onto the floor and he was dead!
The setting is not a real setting. It is based in a place called A Middle America. In America. The movie is from the past and was made in the past in 1990.
Edward is the main character and he plays the part in the cold castle. He is a different teenager; Edward is played by Johnny Deep. He has dark black hair and cuts and scars on his face. He dresses very gothic and wears ripped up lack clothes. His hair is thin and black and looks like a mad scientist’s hair.
The other main character is Kim; she is played by Winona Ryder. She is a teenaged girl who has come back from college. She is very natural and is pretty with blond hair; she is medium height and is skinny. Her clothes are quite cold but she mostly wears dresses or jeans and tea shirts. She is a very good actress at romance and expression
The other main character is Kim’s mum and also the lady who took Edward in. she is played by Dianne Wiest. She is a perfect lady who is quite short and wears suits a lot of the tie. She wears glasses and has blond bob style hair. She has a sweet voice and is very kind to people. She is about 40 years old and acts very well.
I think par of her shows that she isn’t. I think that most of the characters are stock characters because you do see middle to old ladies wondering round in the P.Js panicking! But I do think Edward is not a stock character because you don’t see many people with scissors as hands but he is a victim and a different sort of teenager. I like all the characters and I think they do a very good job of acting.
I think the theme of the movies is about family issues and loneliness but it also has some romance in it. The film makes me think about what life would be around that neighbourhood, living with a big cold and dark castle at the top of your perfect neighbourhood.
I think the techniques used by the director are very good, he has used goof lighting to make the castle look very dark and then in the neighbourhood he makes it look very light and sunny. The music is very good because it changes when you go from one part to another. He has also used a lot of colours that makes the neighbourhood very bright and colourful.
The effects I thought about in the film were about how Edward could live like that with no food or water. Also what is the neighbourhood like to live in. I bet it’s very different. I do think the director wanted the audience to think partly about it.
My opinion is that Tim Burton made his film for teenagers because it has got some romance s in! But it’s a very gothic teenager movie that I think a lot of kids would watch just like me. I think it’s not for adults a much because it’s not really that amazing for an adult. I think the age for this movie is between 10years to 16 years old. The reason I think it’s for teenagers is because you wouldn’t let little children watch and film with a bit of horror and romance in it, and I think older people could find it boring. But for me I thought it was a very different but good film.
I think the film was very good in parts and that it was very interesting. The film was different compared to other films but that’s why I like it. I found that in the film you knew what was going to happen there weren’t many surprises in it, but the good thing was that I had no Idea the characters were going to be like that and that it was kind of like “back in the days!!!” well that’s what it felt like to me. I found the movies very enjoyable but I do think it wasn’t perfect like they could have had more surprise in it so it made it a bit more exciting. I think that the film was a good amount of length, like the time wise and that it had a good ending. The film made me think about what it would be like to have that scary castle at the top of my village and also what it would be like to live with scissors as my hands, as I properly wouldn’t like it. I have learnt very much from the film and I just liked it really. I has made me think about people like who could Johnny Depp play the part of Edward and wear all of that gothic clothing and heavy scissors.
I really enjoyed the film and I hope another one comes out like this movie.
